Contemplative Prayer/Divine Reading

Divine Reading is the English translation for the Latin Lectio Divina.  It's an ancient method of prayer going back to the Mothers and Fathers of the Desert.  One listens to the word of God in a short passage of Scripture, then meditates on it and responds to it.

We also do Centering Prayer which is a method of prayer which leads to Contemplative Prayer. It is simple and involves the use of a mantra or sacred word.  This word becomes, "the symbol of your intention to consent to God's presence and action within."

Contemplative prayer is, "the pure gift of God.  Centering prayer is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship" (Thomas Keating).  Centering Prayer is also an ancient Christian practice.
Both Lectio Divina and Contemplative Prayer are deeply transforming resulting over time in the growth of the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
