STILL GOING STRONG! Church of St. John in the Wilderness Country Fair & Auction 2011
St. John’s Country Fair & Auction continues again this July as it has for nearly 50 years; it will be held on the church grounds under THE BIG TENT on Saturday July 9, 2011, 9AM – 3PM followed by a Pork Barbecue on Sunday July 10 at 1PM. .
The Fair 2011, continues with a new format in its traditional setting. Fair-goers will experience a newly expanded Garden Shop with perennials, an enlarged Vintage Linen Shop, Jewelry, Boutique items, Snack Bar, and Bake Sale. We will no longer have the Trash and Treasure, Toys, and Book Tables.
Special tours of the historic Upjohn designed church and rectory will be conducted throughout the day. Children will have an enjoyable experience in our Children’s Activity Tent during the day of the fair.
The Auction on Saturday will begin at 11AM and will primarily include furniture, fine china and glassware, tools in working order, antiques, and framed artwork. We will have a “day of the event raffle” of a large painted wooden bird-house designed as an architectural replica of St. John’s. The Church of St. John in the Wilderness (Episcopal) is in Copake Falls, New York, at the northern end of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail. The Rev John P. Thompson is Rector. The church building, built in 1852, was designed by Richard Upjohn, architect of Trinity Church Wall Street, New York, and founding president of the American Institute of Architects. The church has 70 members and serves the Roe Jan area of eastern Columbia County. The church is located on State Route 344 in Copake Falls, on the road to Bash Bish Falls.
